CETG offers workshops to members (and friends) on a variety of stitching and textile related
Tutors are a mixture of members and outside experts. In 2018 workshops will include creating
a mixed media design with paper, fabric and free-machine embroidery; needle felting into
velvet and embellished birds.
In late 2016 the Committee came up with the idea of creating bunting for display at
exhibitions, fairs and similar events. It was conceived as a collaborative project to
involve as many members as possible. Based on an abstract design painted by Janet Edmonds,
each participant was to produce their own interpretation in stitch of a small section of
the main design. These pieces were to be joined together to produce digitally scanned
fabric from which the bunting would be produced.
The Pat Fleming Award was created in the 1980s to commemorate a member who died of cancer.
A rose bowl was donated by Pat's husband and it was regularly awarded to the winner of a
competition open to all members of CETG.
In 2012, CETG staged its second exhibition, which was opened by Miles Green, the local
historian and author of the book "Penn's Medieval Floor Tiles". The medieval tiling
industry gave members the inspiration to produce their own tableaux of textural tiles
which was on display.
